Jackson 5 Discography

The history of music in the U.S. records the success of the Jackson 5 as the first black teen idols to appeal equally to white audiences. In the first moths of 12969, the group was busily practicing and rehearsing.  It was Diana Ross who formally introduced this soon to be sensation. On August 11, 1969 Diana Ross presented the Jackson 5 to the world and a packed house at the L.A. Forum.  Their debut album, Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5, quickly followed in December of that year.  On October 7, 1969, the Jackson 5 released their first single, "I Want You Back".

In 1975, the Jackson Five changed their official name to The Jacksons.  At that point brother Germaine had left the group to pursue his own musical career.  Randy Jackson, Germaine’s younger brother, replaced him.  In spite of the change, the group remained successful throughout the 1980s with hits like "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" and "State of Shock" which appeared on their album Victory in 1984. Friend and fellow musician Mick Jagger performed on the album doing “State of Shock” with the group.   It was the Victory record and remarkably successful Victory tour that also marked Germaine’s return to the ranks of the Jackson family stage.  It was just after the Victory tour that Michael left the group.  By then “Thriller” had put him at the top of the charts and he was at the top of his game in his solo career.  The rest as they say is history.

In 1989, the album 2300 Jackson Street was released.  By 1990, the band officially retired having had a dismal commercial reception for 2300 Jackson Street
